Northeast forward Marretta makes NCAA commitment

December 13, 2019
The Northeast Generals of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that forward and assistant captain Gerard Marretta has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey for Trinity College.

Marretta, 20, is currently in his second season playing in the NAHL with the Generals. The 5’9/183 lbs. native of Monroe, New Jersey, has six goals and three assists for nine points in 27 games this season, which includes two short-handed goals.

In 2018-19, Marretta joined the Generals after a four-game stint in Amarillo. In 28 games with the Generals he had two goals and six assists for eight points.

Prior to joining the Generals Marretta was a standout for the Monroe Township Falcons where he has 120 points (including 75 goals) in just 56 games.  He then played two years at the Tilton School where in 40 games he recorded 21 goals and 28 assists for 49 points.

“Gerry is one of the best kids I have ever coached.  He came to us last year and has made an incredible mark on our organization both on and off the ice right away.  He is one of those players that does everything… He blocks shots, finishes checks, penalty kill, power play, you name it.  He is invaluable to our success.  The boys love him as does the entire staff.  He is the first to volunteer off the ice and the first to put in extra work on the ice.  He is also very academically minded and had a goal of playing in the prestigious NESCAC conference.  We are so proud of Gerry for reaching his goals and excited to see how he continues to impact us and before he starts to put his mark on Trinity.  Gerry has a very bright future both on and off the ice,” said Generals Head Coach/GM Bryan Erikson.

Trinity plays in the NESCAC conference at the NCAA Division III level.  So far this season Trinity is 7-1 and ranked 2nd in the nation.  He will join former Generals Timothy Weinstein who currently mans the blue line for Bantams.
