Lone Star forward Guerra makes NCAA D1 commitment
February 24, 2020
The Lone Star Brahmas of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that forward Matt Guerra has committed to play NCAA Division 1 hockey for Robert Morris University in Atlantic Hockey.
Guerra, 20, is in his second and final season playing junior hockey in the NAHL for the Brahmas. The 5’10/181 lbs. native Sanford, Florida, currently leads the Brahmas in scoring this season with 55 points (16 goals, 39 points) in 47 games played.
Guerra was also selected to and played in the recent 2020 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament for the South Division team, where he recorded three points in two games played.
Overall in his two-year NAHL career, Guerra has recorded 108 points in 105 career NAHL games.
“We are all very proud of Matt. He has put in so much hard work over the last two years to become an elite player. He knows how to help a hockey club win and this is why he has earned this opportunity at RMU. Certainly he will make a fine addition to the Colonials roster,” said Brahmas head coach Dan Wildfong. “He worked very hard and played very well at the NAHL Top Prospects Tournament this week, so it was good to see it pay off in an NCAA Division 1 commitment.”
The Colonials current roster has 15 alumni from the NAHL, including three former Brahmas: Senior Sean Giles and Sophomores Aiden Spellacy and Justin Addamo. This is yet another example of exactly why the North American Hockey League is also known as “The League of Opportunity” in that so many NAHL players ascend to the NCAA Division 1 Hockey elite rank and file.
