Amarillo forward Udd-Hellgren makes NCAA commitment

September 23, 2020

The Amarillo Bulls of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that forward Linus Udd-Hellgren has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey for New England College.

Udd-Hellgren, 21, saw action in 24 games with the Bulls last season. Despite injuries, Udd-Hellgren still managed to make an impact in the games he did play. The 5’8/187 lbs. native of Gavle, Sweden was able to put up 2 goals and 4 assists for 6 points while racking up 10 penalty minutes and a +3 rating.

Udd-Hellgren came to Amarillo after spending his entire hockey career as a part of the Brynas IF hockey club in Sweden. The number of college commitments from last year’s team set a team record. He is the 19th player from 2019-20 team to commit to playing college hockey.

“We are very happy for Linus and his family. He came to Amarillo with the goal of being an NCAA Student-Athlete and has achieved that goal,” said Bulls Head Coach, Rocky Russo. “Linus battled though some unlucky injuries this year and really showed his character as he pushed through to get back in the lineup. I am certain he will be an excellent addition to the New England College hockey program and academic community.”

“Despite the fact that I was injured for the most part of the 19-20 season it was one of my best decisions I have ever made to move to Amarillo. Amarillo helped me grow both on and off the ice and will be something I will never forget. I could not have asked for a better place to come to for my first year abroad, the best coaches, staff and community,” said Udd-Hellgren. “New England College felt like the best choice for me to continue to grow as a person, student and as a hockey player. I have only heard great things about the school and the hockey program. I am very thankful and excited to spend my next 4 years at New England College.”
