Lone Star forward Niemo makes NCAA D1 commitment

November 20, 2020

The Lone Star Brahmas of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that forward Nicholas Niemo has committed to play NCAA Division 1 hockey for Bentley University in Atlantic Hockey.

Niemo, 19, is in his first season playing in the NAHL for the Brahmas. The 5’10/165 lbs. native of Middlebury, Vermont, is currently tied for the team scoring lead with 10 points, including a team-leading five goals, in just six games played.

“Extremely honored and excited to announce my commitment to play division 1 college hockey and further my education at Bentley University! Thank you to my family, friends, coaches, and teammates for all the help along the way,” said Niemo on Twitter.

This past week, Niemo was named the NAHL’s South Division Star of the Week as he helped his club to a weekend home sweep of the Amarillo Bulls. Niemo had seven points (1 goal, 6 assists) and was a +5 in the two wins. On Friday, Niemo, who ranks tied for 2nd in the NAHL currently with 12 points, had a goal and two assists in a 4-2 win. On Saturday, he assisted on four of Lone Star’s five goals in a 5-3 win.

“Nicholas had a great weekend. His work ethic and speed really stand out. He is seeing the ice well and his good play is being rewarded right now,” said Brahmas head coach Dan Wildfong. “We are happy to see him earn this NCAA Division 1 commitment. He is playing at a high level and this is a product of his hard work.”
