Friday Finals: Tomahawks take over 1st place with sweep

Johnstown goalie Sam Evola stopped all 50 shots that came his way in two games as he put up back-to-back shutouts this week.

Northeast 0 @ Johnstown 6 - For the second straight day, the Johnstown Tomahawks routed the Northeast Generals, winning on Friday night 6-0. Jay Ahearn registered a hat trick and an assist to lead the offense while Brendan Clark tallied four assists. Sam Evola earned his second consecutive shutout as he made 23 stops. John Gelatt had a goal and an assist. Will Margel and Holt Oliphant also chipped in goals for Johnstown. Anton Castro denied 41 of 47 shots he faced for Northeast.

Fairbanks 4 @ Janesville 2 - The Fairbanks Ice Dogs doubled up the Janesville Jets 4-2 to pick up their second win of the season. Austin Becker potted a pair of goals for the Ice Dogs while Bret Link contributed a goal and two helpers. Jack Ring also got himself on the scoresheet with his first of the year. Kayden Hargraves got the win in between the pipes as he stopped 30 shots. Carter Hottmann and Max Itagaki were the goal scorers for the Jets while Owen Millward stopped 36 shots in a losing effort.

Bismarck 1 @ Aberdeen 4 - Jake Sibell improved to a perfect 13-0 on the year as he denied 37 shots in the Aberdeen Wings 4-1 victory over the Bismarck Bobcats. Spencer Schneider had a goal and an assist while Clayton Cosentino grabbed two assists. Natan Vertes, Payton Matsui and Will Arquiett all got on the scoresheet for the Wings. Braden Costello had the lone goal for Bismarck, his fifth of the season. Cameron Korpi’s shutout streak came to an end as he made 34 saves for the Bobcats.

MN Magicians 4 @ Chippewa 3 - The Minnesota Magicians remained perfect on the season as they outlasted the Chippewa Steel 4-3. Lleyton Roed had a goal and two assists to lead the Minnesota offense. Devlin McCabe chipped in a goal and an assist while Jack Cronin and Luc Laylin also found the back of the net. Andy Beran improved to 2-0 on the year as he stopped 28 of 31 shots. Ian Famulak scored twice for the Steel while Conor Ronayne also tallied a goal for Chippewa. Gus Bylin took the loss for the Steel as he made 46 saves.

Wichita Falls 4 @ Lone Star 1 - The Warriors won for the second day in a row, this time knocking off the Lone Star Brahmas 4-1. Ryan Robinson continued his hot streak with a goal and an assist for Wichita Falls. Owen Baumgartner also had a goal and an assist in the victory. Hunter Jones and Vincent Corcoran also lit the lamp for the Warriors. Owen Bartoszkiewicz picked up his fifth win of the year as he made 25 saves. Dilan Savenkov netted the only goal for the Lone Star Brahmas while Rico Dimatteo and Graham Burke combined 22 saves in goal.

Shreveport 5 @ Odessa 3 - Five different Mudbugs found the back of the net as the Shreveport Mudbugs jumped back into the win column, scoring a 5-3 win over the Odessa Jackalopes. David Breazeale, Matt Vermaeten, Joe Mack, Dawson Sciarrino and Sean Bunting all scored for Shreveport. Cole Hudson nabbed his eighth win of the year by making 36 saves. Meanwhile Ben Doherty had a goal and an assist while Adam Kolcon and Hunter Carrick lit the lamp for the Jackalopes. Connor Hasley was dealt the loss as he made 31 saves for Odessa.
