Lone Star goalie DiMatteo makes NCAA DI commitment

January 6, 2021

The Lone Star Brahmas of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that goaltender Rico DiMatteo has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Northern Michigan University in the WCHA.

DiMatteo, 20, is in his first season playing in the NAHL for the Brahmas. In eight appearances so far during the 2020-21 season, DiMatteo has recorded a 2.11 goals against average and a .916 save percentage, with a record of 4-2-1. The 6’3/175 lbs. native of Brasher Falls, NY is within the top-four goalies across the entire North American Hockey League in goals against average and was also named the South Division Star of the Week for November 30-December 6.

“I’m super excited about my recent commitment,” said DiMatteo, regarding his commitment. “I owe a ton to my parents and family for driving to the rink over the years so I could pursue my dreams. As exciting of a time this is, my focus remains on a strong second half to the season with my team.”

“On behalf of the Brahmas organization, we are extremely proud of Rico and his commitment to Northern Michigan,” said Brahmas assistant coach, Andrew Whiteside. “Rico will be joining the long list of Lone Star goalies to play at the NCAA Division I level.”

DiMatteo is the 12th Brahmas player on the 2020-21 roster who is committed to play NCAA Division I hockey.
