Saturday Scores: Mudbugs sweep to win 4th straight

Kenai River veteran forward Max Helgeson had five points, including a hat-trick on Saturday, in a weekend series split in Janesville.

Wichita Falls 4 @ Shreveport 5 - Shreveport finished off a weekend series sweep of the Wichita Falls as they won 5-4 on Saturday night. Billy Feczko led the team with a goal and two assists while Giovanni Procopio had a goal and an assist. Matt Weber, Sean Bunting and Garrett Steele all found the back of the net in the win for Shreveport. Cole Hudson continued his strong play as he turned aside 32 shots to win his 10th game of the season. For the Warriors, Drew Vieten had a goal and an assist while Aidan Torres, Alex Walker and Ryan Robinson all lit the lamp. Owen Bartoszkiewicz stopped 34 shots in the loss.

Kenai River 9 @ Janesville 5 - The Kenai River Brown Bears brought their losing streak to a screeching halt as they exploded in a 9-5 win over the Janesville Jets. Max Helgeson and Peter Morgan each had a hat trick in the win for Kenai River while Morgan Winters had a goal and two assists. Jeffrey Lee and Daymin Dodge each had a goal and Adam Szubert tallied three assists. Luke Pavicich made 49 saves to improve to 3-1 on the season while Owen Millward denied 29 chances.

Maine 2 @ Northeast 1 (OT) - Cooper Swift’s goal at the 2:00 mark of the overtime was the difference as the Maine Nordiques just got by the Northeast Generals 2-1. Swift’s goal was setup by Isaiah Fox, who assisted on both Nordiques goals. Tyler Gaulin had the other tally for Maine, that came in the first period. Bobby Metz got the lone goal for the Generals with Dylan Schuett and Aidan Curran picking up the assists. Avery Sturtz stopped 17 shots en route to his fifth win of the year. Hugo Haas was slightly busier, making 45 saves in a losing effort.

Maryland 2 @ New Jersey 9 - Jack Ford had two goals and two assists to lead the New Jersey Titans to a 9-2 victory over the Maryland Black Bears. Evan Werner potted a pair of goals and added an assist while Zach Nazzarett and Matthew Iasenza had a goal and two assists. Jake Suede grabbed a goal and three helpers. Anthony Calafiore, and Tyler Nasca also scored for the Titans. Berk Berkeliev made 39 saves for the Titans to earn the win between the pipes while Michael Morelli made 42 saves of his own for the Black Bears.

Lone Star 1 @ Amarillo 2 (Friday) - In a game that was suspended Friday night and finished Saturday morning, the Amarillo Bulls scored a key division win as they topped the Lone Star Brahmas 2-1. Greg Japchen scored the opening goal, it was his 4th of the season. The Brahmas would tie it in the third thanks to Luke Johnson’s sixth goal of the season. The game would remain tied until the final minutes when Nick Martino scored his 3rd goal of the season. Cal Sandquist needed just 18 saves to pick up his seventh win of the season. Graham Burke was dealt the loss in goal as he made 22 stops.

Lone Star 4 @ Amarillo 2 (Saturday) - Luke Johnson’s three points led the Lone Star Brahmas to a 4-2 win over the Amarillo Bulls. Andrew DeCarlo and Mitchell Digby had a goal and an assist each while Ryan Sorkin got on the scoresheet as well. Rico Dimatteo earned the win in the blue paint as he stopped 26 shots. Carter Rapalje and Sean Vlasich were the goal scorers for Amarillo. Cal Sandquist and Max Gutjahr teamed up to make 16 saves in the loss.
