Friday Finals: Jets ride red-hot Sims to shutout

Mudbugs forward Joe Mack had two goals and an assist to help Shreveport jump back into a tie for first place in the South Division after beating the Lone Star Brahmas 5-1 on Friday.

MN Magicians 0 @ Janesville 2 - Riley Sims turned aside all 32 shots fired in his direction as he earned second shutout of the season, blanking the Minnesota Magicians 2-0. It was the 6th straight win for Sims, who has allowed just 11 goals in his last seven games. Carter Hottman’s 11th goal of the season early in the second period would prove to be all the offense the Jets would need. Alexander Lucken would throw in an empty net goal to put the game out of reach for Janesville. Andy Beran was nearly as good as Sims on the other end as he allowed just one goal on 26 shots.

Lone Star 1 @ Shreveport 5 - Joe Mack led the way with two goals and an assist as the Shreveport Mudbugs jumped back into a tie for first place in the South Division after beating the Lone Star Brahmas 5-1. Matt Vermaeten also found the back of the net twice while Garrett Steele chipped in a goal as well for the Mudbugs. Arseni Sergeyev picked up his sixth win of the year by making 29 saves. Guy Blessing and Graham Burke teamed up to make 26 saves.

Wichita Falls 1 @ Amarillo 3 - Ryan Coughlin found the back of the net twice as the Amarillo Bulls took down the Wichita Falls Warriors 3-1. Coughlin picked up his ninth of the season to put Amarillo in front before Thomas Weis evened the score at one goal apiece. Coughlin’s 10th of the year put the Bulls back up for good and Nick Martino added insurance to pad the Bulls lead. Hunter Garvey made 31 stops for Amarillo as he earned his second win of the year. Owen Bartoszkiewicz was dealt the loss in goal as he stopped 25 shots.

Bismarck 2 @ Austin 5 - Garrett Dahm led the Austin Bruins with a goal and an assist as they topped the Bismarck Bobcats by a score of 5-2. Jens Richards, Max Ruoho, Peter Jacobs and Kyle Olsksiuk all found themselves on the scoresheet. Luke Gramer and Jack Conway potted goals for the Bobcats. Hudson Hodges picked up the win in goals as he made 25 saves while Ian Shane and Tommy Aitken combined for 15 stops.

Danbury 1 @ Maryland 5 - Garrett Szydlowski scored twice and chipped in an assist as the Maryland Black Bears snapped their 12 game losing streak as they beat the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks 5-1. Josh Nixon had a goal and an assist in the contest while Brad McNeil and Conor Cole also chipped in goals for the Black Bears. Alex Krause netted the only goal for Danbury in the loss. Michael Morelli made 23 saves to pick up the win while the loss was given to Josh Seeley, who stopped 27 shots.

Northeast 4 @ Johnstown 5 - The Johnstown Tomahawks outlasted the Northeast Generals in a back and forth affair on Friday night 5-4. Dylan Schuett and Tyler Cooper got the Generals out to a 2-0 lead but John Gelatt’s 20th of the season got the Tomahawks on the board in the final minutes of the first period. Anthony Mastromonica and Jay Ahearn would each net power play goals in the second period to give the Tomahawks a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes.Ryan Gordon and Jake Dunlap would put Northeast back on top with two goals scored just over two minutes apart. Jared Gerger netted his fifth goal of the season to tie the game at 4. That would set the stage for Alex Gritz’s game winning goal that came at the 14:33 mark of the third period. Josh Graziano made 16 saves to earn the victory in goal while Hugo Haas turned aside 18 shots in the loss.

Maine 1 @ New Jersey 5 - For the fourth consecutive game, Nick Seitz found the back of the net twice as he lead the New Jersey Titans to a 5-1 win over the Maine Nordiques. Tyler Nasca was the setup man on Friday night as he had three assists. Blake Humphrey netted a goal and an assist while Anthony Mollica and Matthew Doyle contributed goals as well. Christian Stoever was tested yet again as he stopped 46 shots. Tristan Fasig netted the lone tally for the Nordiques while Tyriq Outen made 31 saves.

Chippewa 0 @ MN Wilderness 1 - It was a goaltender duel in Cloquet as Kalen Johnson and Berk Berkeliev went save for save throughout the game. The only time either team found the back of the net was Grant Docter’s sixth goal of the season with the assists going to Donte Lawson and Zach Michaelis. Johnson finished the night by making 30 saves while Berkelierv stopped 29 shots. The win snapped a six-game slide for the Wilderness

New Mexico 3 @ Odessa 2 - The New Mexico Ice Wolves got by the Odessa Jackalopes by a score of 3-2 on Friday night. Isaiah Huempfner opened the scoring for the Jackalopes with his second of the year but Joey Larson would make sure that lead would not last long with his sixth of the season. Fletcher Anderson scored a shorthanded goal to give Odessa the lead after 20 minutes of action. Keegan Langefels would tie the game with a power play goal early in the second period. Nikolai Dulak would pick up the eventual game winner in the final minutes of the middle frame. Beni Halasz was the winner in net for New Mexico as he made 26 saves on 28 shots. Connor Hasley got the loss in net, as he made 27 stops.

Aberdeen 6 @ Minot 1 - After falling on Wednesday night to the Minotauros, the Aberdeen Wings stormed back with a 6-1 victory in Minot on Friday. Thomas Manty and Cade Neilson each had a goal and two assists in the win for the Wings. Jake Goldowski had a goal and an assist for Aberdeen while Spencer Schneider and Liam Fraser got on the scoresheet as well. Jack Westlund netted the only goal for Minot in the loss. Jake Sibell won his 28th game of the season as he turned aside 27 of 28 shots. Keenan Rancier was dealt the loss as he made 34 saves.

Kenai River 3 @ Fairbanks 4 - Four different Ice Dogs found the back of the net as Fairbanks took down the Kenai River Brown Bears. Zachary Murray, Bret Link, Owen Neuharth and Jack Ring all lit the lamp for Fairbanks in the win. Theo Thrun led the Brown Bears with a goal and an assist while Morgan Winters and Peter Morgan also chipped in goal for Kenai River.Kayden Hargraves won his 11th game of the season as he made 29 saves. Andrew Rose took the loss in goal as he made 28 stops.
