Maryland forward Cole makes NCAA DI commitment

Maryland forward Conor Cole played in the 2021 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament for the East Division team.

The Maryland Black Bears of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that Top Prospects forward Conor Cole has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for the University of Alaska-Anchorage.

Cole, 20, is in his second and final season playing in the NAHL for the Black Bears. The 5’10/183 lbs. native of St. John’s, Newfoundland, in currently 3rd in team scoring so far during the 2021-22 season with 23 points (5 goals, 18 assists) in 26 games played for the Black Bears.

“I’m so grateful for everyone in the Maryland Black Bears organization, as my time here these past 2 years has been a great experience. I’m grateful for my teammates and coaches for supporting me throughout this whole process and excited for the rest of the year to see what we can do going forward. I’m thrilled to be going to the University of Alaska-Anchorage to help build a new program,” said Cole.

Last season, Cole put up 27 points in 49 regular season games and four points in eight playoff games. He was also selected to and played in the 2021 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament in Blaine, MN, for the East Division team.

Overall in 75 career NAHL regular season games, Cole has recorded 50 points.

“Conor epitomizes what we are as a program. He does things the right way, leads by example, and competes his butt off every time he steps onto the ice. We are thrilled for Conor and proud that he has attained a Division I commitment. He will be a great ambassador for the University of Alaska-Anchorage. We look forward to seeing Conor continue to evolve as a student athlete in Anchorage,” said Black Bears head coach Clint Mylymok.
