Top U18 USA women’s goalie Bergmann attending Jets main camp

July 25, 2022

The Janesville Jets, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to have goaltender Annelies Bergmann at their Main Camp running July 25 through July 28.

One of the top U18 women’s goaltenders in the country, Bergmann (6-0/160) is a late-2005, left-catching goaltender from Detroit, Michigan, and is committed to Cornell University. Bergmann becomes the first female athlete to skate as a participant in a Janesville Jets camp.

“We’re very excited that Annelies chose to come to Janesville and have an opportunity at our camp,” said Jets Head Coach and Assistant General Manager Parker Burgess. “Janesville has been a place where we’ve been able to produce, work with, and develop many young, high-talent goaltenders at the Division I level. Annelies is no different. We know she’s very excited about the opportunity, and we’re just as thrilled to have a very talented goaltender at camp. Annelies is more than deserving of this moment, and for the Jets, whether male or female, we strive to bring in talented goaltenders, players, and people of high character, and Annelies checks off all those boxes. We’re fortunate to have her here and excited to see her play.”

Bergmann has played in boys’ leagues her entire career and spent the last two seasons in Troy, Michigan, with the Oakland Jr. Grizzlies, the same program that developed Jets alumnus Jonah Aegerter. This summer, Bergmann won silver with Team USA at the 2022 IIHF Women’s U18 World Championship, held in Madison, Wisconsin. In four games at the tournament, she posted a .934 save percentage across a 3-1 record, including a 25-save shutout victory over Canada.

With several development paths to consider en route to Cornell, Bergmann has her ambitions set on junior hockey.

“I’ve put in a lot of work up to this point and plan on continuing to work towards an opportunity to compete in the NAHL,” said Bergmann. “Being here at camp, skating with the other goaltenders, and working with the Jets’ goaltending coach Larry Clemens has been a great experience, and I'm looking forward to the rest of this week. Competing at this level is a checkpoint I hope to cross off sometime in the future.”

Annelies will skate with Team Red at this week’s camp. All of Main Camp is open to the public at no admission cost.
