Friday Finals: Brahmas snap Warriors streak to move ahead in South

The Bruins widened their lead in the Central Division thanks to a hat-trick from Walter Zacher in a 5-3 win over Minot on Friday.

Oklahoma 3 @ Lone Star 4 - Ryan Comishock’s goal with 2:25 remaining in regulation was the difference as the Lone Star Brahmas knocked off the Oklahoma Warriors 4-3. Ivan Zadvernyuk got the Brahmas on the board first with his second of the season. Max Dronen and Malte Hasselgren responded for Oklahoma giving them a 2-1 lead in the second period. Antti Autere knotted the game up at two heading into the second intermission but Owen Carlile scored in the opening minutes of the final frame to put Oklahoma back ahead. Dhillon Wilde tied the game at three just 6:25 into the third and then it was Comishock’s fourth of the year that proved to be the game winner for Lone Star. William Gramme only needed 13 saves to earn the win in goal. Cameron Korpi took the loss as he stopped 24 of 28 Lone Star shots. 

Minot 3 @ Austin 5 – The Bruins widened their lead in the Central Division thanks to a hat-trick from Walter Zacher in a 5-3 win. Austin opened up a 3-1 lead in the 1st period with two goals from Zacher and one from James Goffredo, while Trevor Stachowiak scored for Minot. The Minotauros made it a 3-2 game in the 2nd period with a power play goal from Hunter Longhi, but Austin would respond with Zacher’s third of the night to make it 4-2. In the 3rd period, Josh Giuliani scored for Austin and Colby Joseph scored for Minot to make it a 5-3 final. Ethan Robertson made 22 saves in the win.

Maryland 2 @ Northeast 4 – The General cut into the Black Bears division lead and handed them their fourth straight loss as they came away with a 4-2 win on Friday. Maryland was first to score as Branden Piku netted his 7th goal of the year. The Generals then rattled off three straight goals from Ryan Remick, Jake LaRusso, and Frank D’Ancona to take a 3-1 lead. Brad McNiel scored for Maryland in the 3rd period, but an empty-netter from Sixten Jennersjo made the final 4-2. Toby Hopp made 38 saves in the win, while Jack Wieneke made 16 saves in the loss.

Maine 4 @ New Jersey 5 (OT) – The Titans erased a three-goal deficit to come from behind and win their seventh straight game as they edged the Nordiques in overtime, 5-4. Maine opened up a 3-0 lead in the 1st period with two goals from Alexey Yarmulmik and one from Kellen Murphy. The Titans came back in the 2nd period with goals from Levente Keresztes, Anthony Calafiore and Brady Hildreth to make it 3-3. The Nordiques went back up as Oliver Genest scored on the power play to make it 4-3. Michael Young tied the game again early in the 3rd period. With :21 seconds remaining in overtime, Dominik Bartecko scored the game-winner. Zakari Brice picked up the win with 22 saves, while Kael Depape made 29 saves in the loss.

Danbury 2 @ Philadelphia 4 – Klaus Jogi scored two goals and Jakub Krbecek made 22 saves to lead the Rebels to a 4-2 home win over Danbury. Jogi opened the scoring for the Rebels in the 1st period. Danbury took a 2-1 lead later in the period with goals from Jake Howard and Andrew Eberling. The Rebels would take a 3-2 lead in the 2nd period with another goal from Jogi and one from Carter Casper. In the 3rd period, Oliver Band added an empty-net goal to secure the 4-2 win. Danbury goalie Matthew O’Donnell made 31 saves in the loss.

North Iowa 1 @ Springfield 2 (OT) – Cole Lonsdale scored both goals for the Jr. Blues, including the game-winner in overtime as Springfield beat North Iowa, 2-1. The Bulls took a 1-0 lead in the 1st period thanks to a power play goal from Justin Mexico. The Jr. Blues tied the game early in the 2nd period with Lonsdale’s 7th goal of the season. Lonsdale would then score midway through overtime to give the Jr. Blues the win. Aksel Reid made 30 saves in the win, while Mitch Day made 36 saves in the loss.

El Paso 5 @ Corpus Christi 4 (OT) – Tristan Kimmen scored two goals, including the overtime-winner as the Rhinos salvaged a weekend split in Corpus Christi thanks to a 5-4 win on Friday. El Paso trailed 4-1 in the 3rd period. Corpus had a 4-1 lead with goals from Logan Neilson, Hans Martin Ulvebne, Cameron Crolley, and Oleksii Dakhnovskyi. Kimmen had the lone goal for the Rhinos until the 3rd period when they exploded for three straight goals to tie the game at 4-4 as Reid Lune, Luke Morris, and Mark LaFrance all found the back of the net. With just :50 seconds left in overtime, Kimmen netted the game-winner. Nolan Suggs made 38 saves in the win, while Thomas Kiesewetter made 30 saves in the loss.

New Mexico 0 @ Shreveport 3 – Simon Bucheler stopped all 29 shots that came his way for his first shutout of the season as the Mudbugs blanked the Ice Wolves on Friday, 3-0. The game was scoreless until midway through the 3rd period when Shreveport finally broke through with goals from Hayden Nichol and Drake Morse to make it a 2-0 contest. Brent Litchard would add an empty-net goal to make the final, 3-0. New Mexico goalie Carsen Stokes made 36 saves in the loss.

St. Cloud 1 @ Minnesota 0 – St. Cloud goalie Tomas Bolo made a season-high 34 saves as he posted his first shutout of the season as the Norsemen blanked the Wilderness, 1-0. Daniels Murnieks scored the lone goal of the game, which came midway through the 1st period with assists to Evan Pahos and Blake Perbix. Wilderness goalie Isak Posch made 14 saves in the loss.

Amarillo 3 @ Odessa 4 (OT) - John Perdion scored just over a minute into overtime to lift the Odessa Jackalopes to a 4-3 victory over the Amarillo Wranglers. Odessa got out to a 2-0 lead with goals from Ryan Mansfield and Logan Ganz. Amarillo responded with three straight of their own as Kyle DeMarco, Roman Zap and Chase Davis put Amarillo ahead 3-2 early in the third period. John Christen tied the game with his first goal of the season, setting the stage for Perdion’s heroics in overtime. Gergely Orosz picked up the win as he made 29 saves. Carter Clafton was dealt the loss despite making 40 stops for Amarillo.

Aberdeen 1 @ Bismarck 6 - Brandon Reller lit the lamp twice as the Bismarck Bobcats scored a 6-1 win on Friday night. Adam Pietila had a goal and an assist while Vert Jantunen, Drew Holt and Calvin Hanson all found the back of the net for the Bobcats. Jackson Anderson picked up the lone goal for Aberdeen in the loss. Linards Lipskis was the winner in between the pipes as he had 26 saves. Cole Moore stopped 25 shots for the Wings. 

Fairbanks 3 @ Chippewa 6 - Kade Neilsen tickled the twine twice as the Chippewa Steel doubled up the Fairbanks Ice Dogs 6-3. Matthew Brille and Sam Rice each had a goal and an assist for the Steel while Jackson Bisson and Peyton Platter also chipped in goals for Chippewa. Julian Recine and Billy Renfrew each notched a goal and an assist for Fairbanks while Colin Goff also scored. Adam Gajan got the win in goal with 28 saves while Jack Olson was given the loss as he made 30 saves. 

Anchorage 3 @ Kenai River 2 - Aiden Westin scored twice in the final minute of regulation to give the Anchorage Wolverines, an improbable win over the Kenai River Brown Bears, 3-2. Westin scored with 54 seconds remaining to tie the game at low goals apiece. Then he scored his 13th of the season with just a few seconds remaining. Kory DiPonio had the other Anchorage while Owen Hanson and Nick Stevens scored for the Brown Bears as well. Eino Rissanen stopped 27 shots on their lunch to pick up the win, Nils Wallstrom made 29 stops in the loss.
