Kenai River defenseman Huffman makes NCAA DI commitment

December 6, 2022

Ladder of Development: Caleb Huffman played in both the NAPHL and NA3HL prior to his time in the NAHL, which led to his NCAA Division I commitment.

The Kenai River Brown Bears of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that defenseman and NAPHL and NA3HL alum Caleb Huffman has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for the University of Alaska-Anchorage.

Huffman, 20, is currently in his third and final season of junior hockey, which has been spent between the NAHL and the NA3HL. The 6’4/190 lbs. native of Anchorage, AK, is currently having his best career season to date and has recorded 15 points (3 goals, 12 assists) in 27 games so far during the 2022-23 season.

“Super excited to announce my commitment to play Division 1 hockey at the University of Alaska Anchorage starting next semester! Huge thank you to all my coaches, teammates, friends, and family who helped me along the way,” said Huffman on social media.

Huffman, who is a grad of both the NAPHL and NA3HL, began his junior career with the North Iowa Bulls in the NA3HL during the 2020-21 season. During that season, he recorded 19 points in 25 regular season games and had four points in 10 Fraser Cup Playoff games helping the Bulls to the Fraser Cup Championship. He also made his NAHL debut on March 20, 2021 with the Brown Bears that season.

Last season, Huffman played in 55 regular season games and recorded seven points.

Prior to playing in the NAHL and NA3HL, Huffman spent three seasons playing in the NAPHL. During the 2017-18 campaign, Huffman played for the Alaska Oilers 15U team, appearing in 13 games and recording five points.

During the 2018-19 season he joined the Meijer AAA (now Biggby Coffee) 16U team, where he had six points in 15 regular season games and two points in five Dixon Cup Playoff games, helping his team to the NAPHL 16U Dixon Cup Championship.

During the 2019-20 season, Huffman recorded three points in 13 games played with the Meijer AAA 18U team
