Friday Finals: Windigo win highlights night of offense
Max Wagener had a hat trick to lead the Janesville Jets to a 5-3 win over the Anchorage Wolverines.
Kenai River 0 @ Wisconsin 7 - Zach Cline had a hat trick and Gavin Moffatt stopped all 28 shots he faced as the Windigo shutout the Brown Bears 7-0. Everett Pietila had a goal and two helpers while Max Martin and Luke Levandowski each notched a goal and an assist. Benjamin Anderson also scored for the Windigo. Nils Wallstrom was saddled with the loss despite making 42 saves.
Anchorage 3 @ Janesville 5 - Max Wagener’s hat trick led the Janesville Jets to a 5-3 win over the Anchorage Wolverines. Nate Murray and Connor Deturris both got on the scoresheet for the Jets while Matthew Hale and Kyle Kudrna each picked up a pair of assists. Cameron Morris led the Anchorage offense with a goal and an assist. Fedya Nikolayenya and Aiden Westin also visited the red light district for Anchorage. Selby Warren was the winner in goal as he made 31 stopes. Eino Rissanen was dealt the loss as he made 21 saves.
Danbury 3 @ Maine 5 - Five different Nordiques found the back of the net as Maine dropped Danbury by a score of 5-3. Anthony Achille and Oliver Genest scored in the game’s opening minute to put the Nordiques up by a pair early. But Wyatt Stefan and Chase Sandhu scored two minutes apart to even the game at the break. The teams traded goals again in the second period with Brendan Gibbons scoring for Maine and Logan Nickerson countering for Danbury. Aidan Coupe and Andrew Gibbons scored in the final frame to give the Nordiques the victory. Thomas Heaney made 14 saves to earn the win in goal while Matt O’Donnell stopped 33 shots in the loss.
Northeast 9 @ Johnstown 2 - Sixten Jennersjo had two goals and a helper while David Andreychuk also scored twice as the Northeast Generals trounced the Johnstown Tomahawks 9-2. Jackson McCarthy, Nick Ramm and Jake LaRusso each had a goal and an assist. Nick Recupero and Ryan Remick also lit the lamp for the Generals. David Matousek and Nick Ahern provided the offense for the Tomahawks. Toby Hopp stopped 24 shots to earn the win in the blue paint. Alec Rajalin-Scharp and Colin Purcell combined to make 20 saves for Johnstown.
North Iowa 3 @ Austin 2 (OT) - Nolan Abraham’s goal in overtime lifted the North Iowa Bulls to a 3-2 win over the Austin Bruins. Simon Dadie scored both of North Iowa’s goals in regulation to give himself five on the season. Gavin Morrissey and Dylan Cook potted goals for the Bruins. Mitch Day was sensational as he made 38 saves for North Iowa. Ethan Robertson took the loss in goal as he turned aside 21 shots.
Shreveport 5 @ Corpus Christi 1 - Two goals from Ryan Burke helped the Shreveport Mudbugs finish off the sweep of the Corpus Christi IceRays with a 5-1 win on Friday night. Drake Morse grabbed a goal and an assist while Maksim Sushchynski and Logan Gotinsky also scored for the Mudbugs. Dylan Contreras contributed the lone goal for the IceRays offense. Tommy Aitken was nearly perfect as he made 26 saves on 27 shots. Lukas Malant suffered the loss in the crease, he made 29 saves.
St. Cloud 2 @ Aberdeen 3 (SO): Dylan Wegner scored the lone goal in the shootout to lift his squad past the Norsemen 3-2 in their first game after the holiday break. Landon Parker got the Wings on the board 16:16 into the 1st period with his 8th of the season. The Norsemen battled back and scored a pair in the 2nd period, both goals coming from forward Kade Peterson. Kyle Contessa, on the powerplay, tied the game for the Wings 12:32 into the 3rd period. Geno Pichora came out on top between the pipes, stopping 20 shots in regulation and all three shootout attempts in the win. Tomas Bolo gave the Norsemen a chance, making 26 saves in the contest.
New Mexico 6 @ Amarillo 3: The Ice Wolves got off to a hot start and wouldn’t slow down, scoring three 1st period goals and six total in their win over the Wranglers. Andrew Carls, JD Metz, and Yusaku Ando all found the back of the net for New Mexico in the opening period. Amarillo heated up in the 2nd period with three goals of their own, coming from Pierce Patterson, Zack Kent, and Blake Farrell. William Howard and Carls helped keep the lead in-tact with scores in the middle frame as well. Howard found his 2nd of the game and 19th of the season to add on more insurance in the 3rd period. Carsen Stokes backstopped New Mexico, making 39 saves in the victory. Amarillo’s Luca Ganz and Carter Clafton combined for 25 saves, Ganz credited the loss with 14 stops.
Bismarck 3 @ Minot 4: The Minotauros replicated their scoring output and the final score of Thursday night’s game against the Bobcats, taking them down 4-3 in regulation in come-from-behind fashion. Patrick Johnson scored the lone goal in the 1st period to give the visitors a lead through 20 minutes of play. Calvin Hanson doubled up the lead with his 6th goal of the season 4:05 into the middle frame. Adam Mahler got Minot on the board just 72 seconds after Hanson’s goal. In the final period, Minot rallied to score three goals from John Emmons, Chase LaPinta, and Bryce Howard. Hanson scored another for the Bobcats between Emmons and LaPinta but the Minotauros were able to hold on and secure the victory. Noah Rupprecht kept out 22 saves in the win while Hunter Garvey made 23 stops for Bismarck.
