Saturday Scores: Rebels sweep tightens East standings

Philadelphia 3 @ New Jersey 2 (SO): Kristian Samitis tickled twine and Jakub Krbecek made the final stop to lift the Rebels past New Jersey 3-2 in consecutive nights. New Jersey’s Robert Hyde and Philadelphia’s Tyler Stern traded goals in the opening frame to keep the score level through 20 minutes. Michael Young buried for the Titans midway through the 2nd period before Connor Sedlak once again leveled the scores just a minute and three seconds later. Krbecek made 30 saves in regulation and all but one of New Jersey’s shootout attempts. Zakari Brice made 26 saves in the loss. 

Chippewa 5 @ Janesville 9: In a wildly offensive matchup, the Janesville Jets came out on top as they scored nine goals in their 9-5 win over the Steel. Max Wagener, Ryan Williams, and Merril Steenari got the offense rolling early with 1st period scores for Janesville. Jimmy Doyle, Cannon Lentz, Steenari, and Wagener continued the onslaught in the 2nd period. Connor Deturris and Gabriel Lundberg added more goals in the final frame. Chippewa’s goals came from Sam Rice, JJ. Grainda (2), Noah Grolnic, and Peyton Platter. Selby Warren kept out 42 for the Jets while Gajan made 22 stops for the Steel. 

Corpus Christi 3 @ Oklahoma 8: The Warriors exploded for five second period goals as they topped the Corpus Christi IceRays by a score of 8-3. Drew Sutton led the way with two goals and an assist while Owen Baumgatner also potted a pair of goals. Kaden Nelson, Joey Delgreco, Malte Hasselgren and Hunter Jones all scored for Oklahoma. Nick Erickson had plenty of goal support as he stopped 20 shots. Anthony Cafarelli, Cody Kempf and Connor Brust all netted goals for the IceRays. Patrik Jurcak and Thomas Kiesewetter combined to make 34 saves for Corpus Christi.

Lone Star 2 @ Shreveport 6: The Mudbugs picked up the weekend sweep over the Brahmas after taking them down in dominant fashion by a final score of 6-2. Johan Rosenquist scored the lone goal in the opening frame to give the visitors the first lead of the contest. David Skuhrovec doubled the lead 8:01 into the 2nd period before Ryan Austin got Shreveport on the board later in the period. From then on the Mudbugs dominated as Nick Marino scored a pair of goals while  Jake Mack, Drake Morse, and Hayden Nichol also tickled twine. Simon Bucheler picked up the victory between the pipes making 19 saves on 21 shots. Arthur Smith kept out 17 shots in the loss. 

Bismarck 3 @ Aberdeen 2 (OT): Evan Hunter scored 3:06 into overtime as the Bismarck Bobcats finished off a weekend sweep of the Aberdeen Wings. Bismarck trailed 2-0 after 40 minutes of action but goals from Patrick Johnson and Adam Pietila extended the game to overtime to set up Hunter’s heroics. Dylan Wegner and Luke Backel had the goals for Aberdeen in the opening two periods. Linards Lipskis got his second win in as many nights as he stopped 31 shots. Cole Moore took the loss in goal, he made 27 stops.

Johnstown 3 @ Danbury 2: The Tomahawks came out on top in their matchup against Danbury once again, edging past them Saturday night 3-2. Will Lawrence and Will Moore provided some early offense with scores in the opening frame. Andrew Eberling cut the deficit in half for Danbury after chipping in a goal 6:13 into the 2nd period. Peter Lajoy tied the game 3:14 into the final frame with his 2nd goal of the season before Bryce Laager put home the eventual game winner, his first goal in his junior hockey career. Adam Johnson picked up the victory making 26 saves on 28 shots. Karlis Mezsargs kept out 25 shots in the loss. 

Wisconsin 1 @ Kenai River 3: It was a three-point night for Garrett Drotts as the Kenai River Brown Bears swept the Wisconsin Windigo with a 3-1 win on Saturday night. Drotts had a goal and two assists to lead the Kenai offense. Ryan Finch and Jacob Zwirecki also visited the red light district for the Brown Bears. Connor Mahony had the lone goal for Wisconsin. Nils Wallstrom was great in goal as he made 37 saves to earn the victory. Gavin Moffatt was the loser in goal as he made 19 saves. 

Minnesota 3 @ Springfield 4 (OT): Jake Peterson buried his second overtime winner of the season 1:02 into the extra period to lift the Jr. Blues past Minnesota 4-3. Donovan O’Neil scored the lone goal in the opening frame to give the visitors a lead through one period of play. Hayden Riva, Adyn Merrick, and Carter Cloutier provided an offensive onslaught with goals in the 2nd period for Springfield. Kevin Marx Noren buried his 19th of the season to bring the scoreline to 3-2 through 40 minutes of play. Gunnar Thoreson evened the scores with just 1:06 remaining in regulation to send it to overtime. Aksel Reid picked up the win making 25 saves on 28 shots. Isak Posch kept out 13 shots in the loss. 

Northeast 3 @ Maryland 5: The Black Bears pleased their home fans as they bounced back against the Generals Saturday night, defeating them 5-3. Sean Kilcullen and Paul Minnehan traded goals for their respective teams to keep the score level at 1-1 through the 1st period. In the 2nd, Brad McNeil, Riley Ruh, and Kal Essenmacher found the back of the net for the Black Bears while Minnehan and Jared Scott tickled twine for the Generals. Kaleb Tiessen put the finishing touches on the victory with an empty netter with 16 seconds remaining in regulation. William Hakansson made 25 saves for Maryland while Toby Hopp kept out 33 for the Generals. 

St. Cloud 4 @ North Iowa 2: The Norsemen continue to stay hot, taking down the Bulls 4-3 to secure the home-and-home sweep and improve their win streak to four games. Andrew Clarke and Tyler Dysart both lit the lamp in the opening frame to get St. Cloud’s offense rolling early. Nolan Abraham kept North Iowa within reach with a score on the powerplay. Blake Perbix extended the Norsemen lead with his 12th of the season early in the middle frame. Kade Peterson added more insurance very early in the 3rd period with a goal. Jackson Bisson scored shorthanded for the Bulls but they were unable to make the comeback. Tomas Bolo kept out 23 of 25 in the win while Stefan Carney made 22 saves in the loss. 

New Mexico 5 @ Odessa 4: Yusaku Ando had a goal and three assists to lead the New Mexico Ice Wolves to a 5-4 win over the Odessa Jackalopes. William Howard found the back of the net twice while Sully Scholle and Hunter Hastings all lit the lamp. Trevor Taulien netted a pair of goals for Odessa while William Marshall and Dayne Hoyord also got on the scoresheet for the Jackalopes. William Craig earned the win in goal as he made 28 saves. Gergely Orosz was dealt the loss as he made 26 saves. 

Austin 3 @ Minot 1: The Austin Bruins earned a series split as they defeated the Minot Mintoauros 3-1. Walter Zacher got Austin on the board with his 20th of the season. Erik Hernborn’s first of the year gave Austin the lead and eventually would prove to be the game winner. Ethan Lindahl added an empty goal to seal the win for Austin. Chase LaPinta continued his strong play with another point on the evening. Trent Wiemken stopped 24 shots en route to a win in between the pipes. Noah Rupprecht was given the loss as he also stopped 24 shots. 

Amarillo 4 @ El Paso 2: Ben Ivey ended the night with two goals and an assist as the Amarillo Wranglers doubled up the El Paso Rhinos by a score of 4-2. Pierce Patterson notched a goal and an assist while Ronan Walsh also scored for the Wranglers. AJ Reed and Ryan Gingher provided the offense for the Rhinos. Luca Ganz won his second game of the weekend as he turned aside 25 shots. Nolan Suggs was able to make 34 saves in the loss. 

Fairbanks 3 @ Anchorage 6: Jackson Reineke led Anchroage with two goals and two assists as the Wolverines defeated the Ice Dogs 6-3. Fedya Nikolayenya potted two goals and an assist while Tomek Haula had a goal and two helpers. Cameron Morris also scored for Anchorage in the win. Kole Altergott, Cameron Ricotta and Brady Welsch were the goal scorers for Fairbanks. Eino Rissanen was the winner in the blue paint as he made 31 saves. Kayden Hargraves was served the loss as he made 28 saves.
