Friday Finals: Windigo explode for 9 goals in win
Klayton Knapp stopped all 22 shots that came his way as the Bobcats picked up a 1-0 shutout in their home-opener over the Bulls.
Kenai River 2 @ Wisconsin 9 – The Windigo racked up a season-high nine goals in a 9-2 win over the Brown Bears. Will Schumacher had a hat-trick and an assist in the win. After an opening goal from Dylan Contreras for Kenai River, it was all Windigo after that, which included three goals from Schumacher, two more from Zachary Cline, and others from Max Martin, Drew Fisher, Daniil Dolzhenko, and Adam Timm. Nick Stevens scored the other goal in the Brown Bears loss. Linards Lipskis made 22 saves in the win.
North Iowa 0 @ Bismarck 1 – Klayton Knapp stopped all 22 shots that came his way as the Bobcats picked up a 1-0 shutout in their home-opener over the Bulls. The lone goal of the game came late in the 3rd period from Patrick Johnson with assists to Jakub Kopecky and Tyson Smith. Bulls goalie Santo Simmchen made 37 saves in the loss.
Shreveport 2 @ Lone Star 4 - Three goals in the third period sent the Lone Star Brahmas ahead of the Shreveport Mudbugs in a 4-2 final score. After a scoreless first, Angrej Paricka (4:29) got the Mudbugs on the score sheet in the second period. Shreveport added to their lead with a goal from Colin Vassallo (15:35) for a 2-0 score. Nearing the end of the period, Brock James (18:39) got the Brahmas on the board to end the period, 2-1. In the third it was all Brahmas with David Skuhrovec (1:13), Bryce Ingles (12:53) and Matyas Borak (13:13) scoring for a 4-2 final.
Odessa 3 @ Colorado 5 - The Colorado Grit protected home ice with a 5-3 win over the Odessa Jackalopes. George Poirier (1:14) opened up the scoring in the first period for a 1-0 Grit lead. In the second, Odessa got on the board with a goal from Zach Benayon (1:21), 2-1. Romulus Riego De Dios (8:29) and Wilder Jacober (8:57) scored consecutively to add to the Colorado lead, 3-1. Nearing the end of the period, Micheal Kadlecik (18:33) scored for Odessa and ended the period with a 3-2 score. The scoring picked up quickly in the third period with a goal from Chris Graves (1:36) for the Grit to get ahead 4-2. Soon after, Hayden DeMars (4:28) scored for the Jackalopes, 4-3. With time nearly expiring, the Grit added the final goal of the game from Christian Carter (19:30) for a 5-3 final score. Goaltender Jack Erickson took the win in net after turning away 27 shots.
Oklahoma 5 @ New Mexico 4 (OT) - The Oklahoma Warriors edged past the New Mexico Ice Wolves in overtime fashion, 5-4. The game was tied 1-1 with Zach Boren (13:33) scoring for New Mexico and Cooper Boulanger (18:23). In the second, Drew Sutton (0:33) and Owen Carlile (7:33) got the Warriors ahead, 3-1. The Ice Wolves responded with back-to-back goals to even the game again 3-3 with Ty Tuccitto (9:07) and Dillon Kuntz (9:22). Kaden Nelson (17:15) scored a late goal to end the period and get the Warriors ahead, 4-3. In the third period, Ryan Johnson (7:02) would score for the Ice Wolves which would end up forcing overtime. In the extra frame, Drew Sutton netted the game winner and his second of the night for a 5-4 final.
Maine 2 @ Northeast 3 - A three goal outburst to open the third period was all the offense the Generals needed as they outlasted the Maine Nordiques by a score of 3-2. After heading to the second intermission down by one, Jett Otwell notched his second goal of the season just a little over two minutes into the final frame. 90 seconds later, Tyler Ramm added his sixth of the year to give the Generals the lead. Frank D’Ancona added insurance five minutes later and it would prove to be the game winner. Jake Bernadette and Nick Romeo lit the lamp for the Nordiques in a losing effort. Toby Hopp picked up the win in goal, stopping 36 of 38 shots. Thomas Heaney was dealt the loss as he finished the evening with 23 saves.
Danbury 0 @ Maryland 4 - Colin Ronan was perfect in between the pipes for the Black Bears as Maryland shutout Danbury by a score of 4-0. Sebastian Brockman got the scoring started with his first goal of the season. Matthew Croxall picked up his third tally of the year just before the end of the opening frame. In the middle period, Kareem El Bashir tickled the twine with his second of the campaign. Keanu Krenn added to the Maryland lead with a late goal in the second. Ronan stopped all 20 shots fired in his direction while Miles Roberts was saddled with the loss after making 28 saves.
Rochester 1 @ New Jersey 5 - It was all New Jersey in the first ever clash between the Titans and the Americans as New Jersey scored of 5-1 win. Ethan Wongus got on the board first with his fifth of the season. Matej Teply would add on to give the Titans a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes. Johnny McMahon and Brian Robertson added goals to double the New Jersey lead early in the middle period. Landon Brownlee got Rochester on the board about midway through the third period before Kristofers Krumins restored the four goal lead for the Titans. Dylan Krick was the winner in the blue paint as he turned aside 31 shots. Florian Wade took the loss as he stopped 25 of the 30 shots he faced.
Aberdeen 4 @ St. Cloud 3 (OT) – Nikolai Tishkevich had two goals, including the overtime-winner, as the Wings picked up a 4-3 road win in St. Cloud. The Wings took a 2-0 lead with goals from Leonid Bulgakov and Tishkevich. The Norsemen would then score the next three goals to take a 3-2 lead as Michael Coleman, Jack Christ, and Lucca Munoz all lit the lamp. The Wings tied the game in the 3rd period on a goal from Logan Gravnik and then Tishkevich scored on a breakaway in overtime. Adam Dybal picked up the win in goal with 31 saves.
Fairbanks 4 @ Janesville 3 – The Ice Dogs got goals from four different players as they took down the 1st place Jets, 4-3. Max Wagener scored twice for Janesville and Ikki Kogawa also added a goal for the Jets in the losing effort. Meanwhile, the Ice Dogs got goals from Kole Altergott, Nikola Murgic, Reece Cordray, and Nick Blood in the win. Tyler Krivtsov made 31 saves in the win.
Corpus Christi 4 @ Amarillo 5 (SO) – The IceRays jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals from Billy Biedermann and Anthony Cafarelli. The Wranglers tied the game in the 2nd period with goals from Topi Puikkonen and Ben Ivey. In the 3rd period, the teams traded goals with Nils Forselius and Wolfgang Givedaris scoring for Corpus Christi and Connor McNaughton and Puikkonen answering for Amarillo. McNaughton would add the shootout winner. Connor McDonough picked up the win in goal.
Springfield 3 @ Minnesota 4 – Three goals in the 2nd period propelled the Wilderness to a 4-3 in at home over the Jr. Blues. The teams were even at 1-1 in the 1st period with Adam Johnson scoring for the Wilderness and Hadley Hudak answering for the Jr. Blues. In the 2nd period, the Wilderness took a 4-1 lead with goals from Aidan Shirey, Beau Janzig, and Ashton Dahms. The Jr. Blues made it 4-3 in the 3rd period with goals from Trey Jefferis and Logan Ganz. Loris Uberti made 31 saves in the win.
