Wilderness forward Dahms makes NCAA DI commitment

The Minnesota Wilderness of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that forward Ashton Dahms has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for the University of Minnesota-Duluth in the NCHC. 

Dahms, 18, made his NAHL debut during the 2022-23 season with the Wilderness, where he played 10 games during the 2022-23 regular season, and nine more in the 2023 Robertson Cup Playoffs. 

The 6’1/165 lbs native of Lakeville, MN, has been one of the top scorers so far for the Wilderness during the current 2023-24 season, racking up 28 points on 19 goals and 9 assists over 25 games while becoming the squad’s leading scorer. 

“I am blessed to announce my commitment to further my education and play Division I hockey at the University of Minnesota Duluth. I would like to thank my family, teammates, and coaches who have helped me get to this point in my career. I am excited for what is to come!” said Dahms. 

Dahms has also spent a portion of this season with Des Moines Buccaneers of the USHL, putting up four goals and one assist over seven games. 

Wilderness head coach Colten St. Clair has nothing but praise for Dahms. “I couldn't be happier to have been able to help such a determined athlete”, said St. Clair. “When we first got him this year, he made the best of it and got better each and every day. We are very proud as an organization to have been a part of his journey. He is going to accomplish great things." 

Prior to playing in the NAHL, Dahms skated for Lakeville South High School in Minnesota. 

He is the sixth players on the 2023-24 Wilderness roster who is committed to play NCAA Division I hockey.
