Springfield goalie Cataldo makes NCAA DI Commitment

February 21, 2024

The Springfield Jr. Blues of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that goaltender JJ Cataldo has announced his commitment to play NCAA Division I Hockey for Army-West Point in the Atlantic Hockey Conference.

Cataldo, 21, is playing his 3rd and final season of junior hockey and first full season in the NAHL. He made his debut in the 2021-22 campaign with the Janesville Jets and wouldn’t play again in the league until joining the Jr. Blues roster this season. The Stuart, Florida native has been the primary backstop for Springfield, appearing in 34 games. Throughout those games, he has accumulated a 3.24 goals against average and a .916 save percentage.

"JJ has been working extremely hard all season and has been great for us on the ice. We’re very proud of him and his commitment to Army-West Point!" said Todd Pococke, head coach of the Springfield Jr. Blues.

Cataldo previously had stints in junior hockey with the USHL and NCDC. Prior to playing junior hockey, he spent his time playing youth hockey for Pittsburgh Penguins Elite and Selects Academy programs.

Cataldo is the 4th player on the Springfield roster to commit to playing NCAA Division I Hockey. JJ will be joining nine other current NAHL players to play under Brian Riley for the Black Nights.
