Oklahoma Warriors Name New Head and Assistant Coaches
Two familiar faces will lead the way behind the bench for the Oklahoma Warriors.
The Warriors have promoted Nate Weossner to Head Coach and General Manager. Mick Berge joins the team as the new Assistant Coach.
Weossner joined the Warriors’ staff as Associate Head Coach and Assistant General Manager in September 2023. In Weossner’s first season, Oklahoma won 31 games and earned a spot in the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year. He has coached at multiple levels, including the NAHL, USHL, and NCAA Division III.
“I am extremely honored and grateful to be named the second head coach and general manager of this organization,” Weossner said. “I want to thank George Chalos for giving me this opportunity to coach this team. I also would like to thank Mary Anne Choi, Michael Huss and Garrett Roth for bringing me into the Warrior family last year and for the Oklahoma hockey community for embracing me. We will keep driving this culture that has been created. We will have an environment where players know they can compete and grow not only as hockey players but as individuals. We will be connected with Oklahoma City and to the Oklahoma City hockey community to continue the growth of the sport of hockey.”
Weossner has experience as a head coach in the NAHL’s South Division with the Corpus Christi IceRays in 2020.
Mick Berge is well-known in the Oklahoma City hockey ranks. An OKC native, Berge played for Lincoln in the USHL before a four-year career at Minnesota State University. Mick, along with brother Josh—the Warriors’ assistant coach in 2022-23—is heavily involved with the Oklahoma Jr. Warriors youth hockey program. Berge has coached in the NAHL and USHL, most recently as an Assistant Coach with the Lincoln Stars in 2017.
“I am honored and privileged to be given the opportunity to work alongside Nate and coach my hometown team,” Berge said. “It is truly a dream come true to continue to build on the success this organization has had along with growing the game from the youth levels all the way up. I would like to thank George Chalos and Nate for this opportunity.”
Weossner takes over for Garrett Roth, who departs to join the Janesville Jets in the same role. Just like Nate and Garrett knew each other a long time before sharing a coaches’ office, Weossner and Berge coached against one another for three seasons in the USHL.
This coaching change, along with the introduction of Team Owner George Chalos, sets in motion a new era of Warriors hockey.
