Saturday Scores: Austin cruises to sweep of Wings

Aberdeen 1 @ Austin 5 – Nick Lehr had to make just 10 saves as the Bruins outshot the Wings 43-11 on their way to a 5-1 win and weekend sweep of Aberdeen.  Chris Fischer scored twice and had an assist to lead the Bruins.  After Jake Horton opened the scoring with the Wings only goal, Fisher tied the game late in the 1st period.  The Bruins then scored four goals in the 2nd period to put the game away including markers from Josh Bretner, CJ Smith, Nate Mondry and Fischer’s second goal. Port Huron 3 @ Soo 4 – Chris Waterstreet scored twice as the Eagles completed a weekend sweep of the visiting Fighting Falcons with a 4-3 win on Saturday.  The Eagle got off to a great start, jumping out to a 4-0 lead midway through the 2nd period on goals from Michael Covach, Mike Sabatini and two from Waterstreet.  Port Huron battled back late in the 2nd period and in the 3rd period with goals from Brett D’Andrea, Rick DeRosa and Daniel Rehnstrom, but it would not be enough. Coulee Region 1 @ Bismarck 6 – The Bobcats got a goal and two assists from Joe Giordano as they cruised to a 6-1 win over the Chill, completing a weekend home sweep.  After goals from Giordano and Jeremy O’Keefe in the 1st period, Rory Vesel scored twice in the 2nd period.  Stanislav Dzakhov and Sam Wolfe added 3rd period goals, while Andy Faust had the lone marker for Coulee Region on the 3rd period.  The Bobcats outshot the Chill, 46-16. Kenai River 2 @ Wenatchee 5 – The Wild jumped out a 3-0 lead in the first six minutes of the game and never looked back as they defeated the Brown Bears 5-2 on Saturday.  Five different players scored for Wenatchee including Josh Hartley, Jono Davis and Evan Schmidbauer all in the 1st period and Max McHugh and Nathan Flynn in the 3rd period.  Matthew Meier and Matt Seidel had the goals for Kenai River in the loss. Fairbanks 5 @ Fresno 4 – In the second game of a three game set in Fresno, the Ice Dogs hung on for a 5-4 win over the Monsters, evening the weekend series.  In a back and forth affair, Fairbanks got goals from Kyle Lee, Jayson Angus and Brett Gervais in the 1st period, newcomer Johnny Meuller in the 2nd period and the game-winner from Devin Loe in the 3rd period.  Meanwhile Fresno, who was outshot 34-21 got goals from Mitchell Snyder, Jacob McDowell, Daniel Rosse and Matt Salituro. Springfield 1 @Topeka 3 – Spencer Viele made 16 saves and allowed just a single goal as the RoadRunners earned a weekend home split with the Jr. Blues with a 3-1 win on Saturday.  Michal Pastor gave Topeka a 1-0 lead in the 1st period, but Nate Chasteen tied the game with a goal midway through the 2nd period.  Patrick Pollock scored the eventual game-winner on the power play late in the 2nd period and Brandon Brossoit added a late 3rd period goal. Odessa 0 @ Amarillo 5 – Collin Delia made 23 saves for his second shutout of the season as the Bulls scored early and often on their way to a 5-0 shutout win and weekend home sweep of the Jacks.  The Bulls outshot Odessa 57-23 and got goals from five different players including TJ Sarcona and Mike Davis in the 1st period and Connor Frey, Ryan Stevens and John Rey all in the 2nd period.  Gage Christianson had two assists.  It was the 14th win in the last 15 games for the Bulls. Corpus Christi 1 @ Texas 4 – Goaltender Hunter Leisner made 21 saves and forward Andrew Mayer scored twice as the Tornado completed a weekend home sweep of the IceRays with a 4-1 win in front of their largest crowd of the season.  Texas jumped out to a 1-0 lead less than a minute into the game with a goal from defenseman Mitchell Mueller.  Mayer scored late in the 1st period to make it 2-0.  Perry D’Arrisso scored to cut the Texas lead to 2-1, but another goal from Mayer and an empty-netter from Jason Eddy secured the win. Boxscore

Brookings 7 @ Minot 4 – The Blizzard moved back into a 3rd place tie with Minot as they salvaged a weekend split with the Minotauros thanks to a hat-trick from Aidan Cavalinni in a 7-4 win.  Brookings jumped to a 3-0 lead on goals from Tyler Cayemberg, Eric Brenk and Conor Andrle and never looked back.  Cavalinni scored all three of his goals in the 2nd period, which chased starter Tyler Parks from the game.  Cameron Rowat, Collin Abitz, Beau Ricketts and Paul Sorenson scored for Minot.
