Sunday Wrap-Up: Brahmas winning streak now at 14

Dante Sheriff scored the overtime-winner to help the Austin Bruins to a weekend sweep of the St. Cloud Blizzard.

Odessa 2 @ Lone Star 5 - The Lone Star Brahmas extended their winning streak to 14 straight games as they completed a three-game weekend home sweep of the Odessa Jackalopes thanks to a 5-2 win on Sunday. The Brahmas went ahead 1-0 late in the 1st period as Stefan Miklakos had gone to the front of the net to blast a backhander into the back of the net. Early in the 2nd period, defenseman Matthew Rickard scored to make it 2-0. Michal Stinil picked up his fourth goal of the weekend to make it 3-0 as he went forehand-backhand to put it five hole at 16:38. Odessa got on the board with a goal early in the third as Gramm McCormack poked home a loose rebound. Time of the goal was 1:18, which snapped Cayden Bailey’s outstanding shutout streak at 334:07. The Brahmas made it 4-1 three minutes later as Sam Brennan who dropped the hammer with a big one-timer into the back of the net at 4:33. The Jackalopes came back again when Kam Ottenbreit lifted a backhander over Bailey from a sharp angle that somehow found its way under the crossbar. Evan Googins would add an empty-net goal for the Brahmas to make it a 5-2 final. Bailey made 14 saves in the win, while Andrew Takacs made 33 saves in the loss.
 
Austin 4 @ St. Cloud 3 (OT) - The Austin Bruins completed their weekend sweep of the St. Cloud Blizzard on Sunday evening, winning in overtime, 4-3. St. Cloud got on the board first taking a 1-0 lead in the opening period with a goal from Brady Bjork. The Bruins wasted little time battling back and managed to tie the game just :30 seconds later as Zach Anderson rifled a wrist-shot past Blizzard goalie Tyler Bost to even the score at 1-1. The first period continued it’s high-action pace as the Blizzard retaliated only two minutes later, retaking their one goal lead on a goal from Zackery Diamont. As the period wound down to the final three minute, Hugh Quinn helped the Bruins tie the game at 2-2 when he lofted a shot to the top right corner. In the second period it took only fifteen seconds for the Bruins to take their first lead of the night. Connor Mylymok scored his eighth goal of the season, his second of the weekend, to push the Bruins up 3-2 in the early part of the second period. After much back-and-forth for the two teams, St. Cloud managed to climb to a 3-3 tie midway through the second period on a goal from Luke Aquaro. After a scoreless 3rd period, Dante Sheriff ended the game 1:48 into overtime to give Austin the win. Brett Miller made 22 saves in the win, while Bost made 29 saves in the loss.
 
New Mexico 4 @ Corpus Christi 3 (SO) – The New Mexico Ice Wolves earned a weekend split against the Corpus Christi IceRays thanks to a 4-3 shootout win at American Bank Center on Sunday. Ryan Coughlin scored his IceRays-leading 13th goal of the season just 69 seconds into the game with a power-play goal past the blocker of New Mexico goaltender Garrett Mackay. Ice Wolves leading scorer Alex Dominique then picked up his 10th goal of the season at 13:04, jamming the puck in from the top of the crease. Ethan Benz regained the lead for Corpus Christi at 18:21, but just under a minute later, New Mexico’s Michael McCosh scored to send the game to a 2-2 tie at the first intermission. In the second period, Griffen Sanom, who assisted on both of the Ice Wolves’ goals in the first period, scored a power-play goal at 5:03 to give the visitors a 3-2 lead. Evan Carroll tied the game with a power-play goal in the third period, sending in a rebound of a Coughlin shot at 7:51. The shootout lasted just two rounds, with Griffen Sanom and Brandon Holt scoring for New Mexico and the IceRays were held off the board both rounds. Mackay made 21 saves in the win, while Cal Sandquist made 30 saves in the loss.
