Mudbugs clinch playoff spot with come-from-behind win
Amarillo 4 @ Shreveport 6 – The Shreveport Mudbugs stormed back from behind, scoring four goals in the 3rd period to defeat the Amarillo Bulls on Thursday night 6-4 and in the process, clinch a spot in the 2020 NAHL Robertson Cup Playoffs. The teams were deadlocked at 2-2 after one period as Jordan Venegoni and Matt Allen scored for Amarillo, while Giovanni Procopio and Matt Hutton scored for the Mudbugs. The Bulls seized momentum in the 2nd period as goals from Casey Roepke and Devan Tongue made it 4-2. However, the Mudbugs found their mojo in the 3rd period with early goals from Sam Miller and Warren Natyshak to tie the game at 4-4. Natyshak would then add the game-winner with less than five minutes remaining and Procopio would score his second goal of the night on an empty-net. Maiszon Balboa made 16 saves in the win, while Charlie Glockner made 19 saves in the loss.
Northeast 1 @ WBS Knights 3 – Knights goalie Zach Stejskal made 39 saves to lead his team to a 3-1 win over the visiting Generals on Thursday. The Knights made the 1st period count as they scored twice in the opening frame on goals from Tyrone Bronte and Anthony Mastromonica. The lead swelled to 3-0 early in the 2nd period as Johnny Kaljian found the back of the net for his 13th goal of the season. With just :23 seconds to play in regulation, the Generals ended Stejskal’s shutout bid as Michael Heneghan scored his 3rd goal of the season to make it a 3-1 final. Generals goalie Joey Stanizzi made 27 saves in the loss.
