Friday Finals: New Mexico opens season with shutout win

Aberdeen forward Jordan Randall kept his hot play going with a hat-trick and two assists in an 8-3 win on Friday night.

New Mexico 4 @ Lone Star 0 - Owen Parker stopped all 26 shots in his North American Hockey League debut to help the New Mexico Ice Wolves secure a 4-0 win over the Lone Star Brahmas. Dillan Bentley’s goal just 51 seconds in was the only scoring until almost midway through the third period. That’s when Cole Hanson and Spencer Rudrud added some insurance. Dominik Sandoval would chip in an empty net goal to ice the game. Grahmas Burke stopped 31 shots as he took the loss in between the pipes.

Bismarck 3 @ Aberdeen 8 - Jordan Randall exploded for a hat trick and two assists as the Aberdeen Wings stayed unbeaten, defeating the Bismarck Bobcats 8-3. Natan Vertes scored a pair of goals and added an assist while Michael Reed and Cade Neilson each potted a goal and two assists. Ben Badalamenti chipped in a goal and an assist. Jake Sibell had plenty of offensive support as he needed just 17 saves to earn the victory. Lars Rodne had two goals for the Bobcats while Tim Piechowski netted the other goal. Noah Altman took the loss in goal as he made 36 saves.

Johnstown 6 @ Northeast 2 - Jared Gerger had 2 goals to lead the Johnstown Tomahawks over the Northeast Generals by a score of 6-2. Alex Gritz and Max Neill each tallied a goal and an assist in the victory. Caded Lewandowski also found the back of the net for the Tomahawks. Sam Evola denied 36 Northeast shots to earn the victory. John Musella and Dylan Schuett scored for the Generals in the loss while joey Stanizzi made 42 saves.

New Jersey 1 @ Maine 6 - It was all Maine early as the Nordiques tallied three goals in the opening 20 minutes en route to a 6-1 win over the New Jersey Titans. Isaiah Fox had himself a night as he potted a pair of goals and a pair of assists. Stefan Owens also had a four point night with a goal and three helpers. Cooper Swift and James Philpott each picked up a goal and an assist for the Nordiques. Tyriq Outen was phenomenal in goal, making 41 saves to earn his third win of the season. Anthony Calafiore was the lone goal scorer for the Titans. Berk Berkeliev and Louden Hogg combined to make 33 saves in net.

Danbury 2 @ Maryland 1 - Ben Biester’s goal at the 16:35 mark of the third period proved to be the eventual game winner as the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks topped the Maryland Black Bears 2-1. Jake Veri had the other tally for Danbury while Luke Mountain scored the only goal for Maryland. Edward Nordlund stopped 17 of the 18 shots he faced to improve to 2-0 on the year. Michael Morelli took the loss as he made 24 saves.

St. Cloud 3 @ Minot 6 - Damon Zimmer continued his strong start as his Minot Minotauros doubled up the St. Cloud Norsemen 6-3. Zimmer scored his fifth goal of the season and chipped in two assists while Jack Westlund, Kaiden Scott, Joseph Harguindeguy and Jared Lambright also lit the lamp for the Minotauros. Keenan Rancier improved to 3-0-1 as he made 28 stops. Hunter Hanson, Blake Mesenburg and Jonny Meiers were the goal scorers for the Norsemen while Paxton Geisel turned aside 39 of the 45 shots he faced.
