Friday Finals: Danbury win highlights high-scoring night in NAHL
Joe Kelly had a hat trick to help the Chippewa Steel pick up a 7-5 win over the Minnesota Wilderness on Friday night.
Danbury 7 @ Maryland 4 – It was a hat trick from Gabe Dombrowski that led Danbury to a 7-4 victory over Maryland on Friday night. Andrew Eberling, Peter Lynchnikoff, Jazz Krivtsov, and Richard Davis all tickled the twine for the Danbury to add to the offensive efforts. Maryland tallies came from four different skaters as Laker Aldridge, Connor Bennett, Kevin Scott, and Matthew Davies all capitalized on chances in their zone. Mike Salandra posted three assists for the Jr. Hat Tricks to aid in the scoring. Josh Seeley claimed 43 saves from behind the crease for Danbury in the win while Maryland goal tender Michael Morelli made 16 stops in a losing effort.
MN Wilderness 5 @ Chippewa 7 – Joe Kelly’s hat trick performance gave Chippewa the edge on home ice to top the Wilderness 7-5. Cole Crusberg-Roseen struck twice for the visiting Wilderness in the tilt, and Ethan Wolthers, Brendan Doyle, and Logan Anderson all contributed goals as well for Minnesota. Jack Brown posted two tallies for the Steel, and both Joseph Grainda and Parker Gnos also lit the lamp for Chippewa. Levi Gho gathered 28 saves for Chippewa to claim his sixth win of the season. Wilderness keeper Sam Livecchi stopped 23 of 30 but was handed the loss in this tight Midwest division battle.
Wichita Falls 5 @ Lone Star 4 (OT) – Ryan Robinson was the overtime hero for the Wichita Falls Warriors as they outlasted the Lone Star Brahmas 5-4. Carter Korpi scored two goals while William Lawson-Body added a goal and two assists in the win for the Warriors. Rylan Brady also contributed a goal for Wichita Falls. Matthew Macdonald registered a pair of goals and had an assist for Lone Star while Frankie Ireland and Ray Murakami chipped in goals for the Brahmas. Matthew O’Donnell made 20 saves for the Warriors while Jan Skorpik was dealt the tough loss as he made 15 saves for the Brahmas.
Amarillo 2 @ El Paso 0 – Max Gutjahr turned aside all 29 shots fired in his direction to earn his second shutout of the season as the Amarillo Wranglers blanked the El Paso Rhinos 2-0. After a scoreless first period, Anthony Vidrick netted his fourth goal of the season to give the Wranglers a 1-0 lead. Dominic Schimizzi would add the insurance goal with just one second left in the middle frame. Gutjahr would hold down the fort in the third by making 11 saves in the period to pick up his second shutout in three starts. Lassi Lehti stopped 29 of 31 shots in the loss for El Paso.
Anchorage 2 @ Fairbanks 4 – Three first period goals paced the Fairbanks Ice Dogs to a 4-2 win over the Anchorage Wolverines. Tyler Stewart scored just 34 seconds into the action while Brendan Miles and Cameron Ricotta both netted tallies in the opening period. Anchorage would draw within one thanks to goals from Clay Allen and Talon Sigurdson. Alexander Malinowski would put the game away with an empty net goal in the final minutes of action to secure the win for the Ice Dogs. Kayden Hargraves picked up the win in goal as he made 23 saves on the evening while Raythan Robbins was give the loss, he made 28 stops.
Minot 4 @ Aberdeen 3 – Four different Minotauros got on the scoresheet as they edged the Aberdeen Wings 4-3 on Friday night. Ben Johnson and Brandon Beahm tallied first period goals while Zack Simon scored his 13th just 40 seconds into the middle frame. Cade Neilson, Jacob Bosse and Jackson Yee score for Aberdeen to bring the game deadlocked at three. The game remained tied until Christian Kadolph scored his first goal of the season with 4:32 remaining and it would stand as the game winner for Minot. Carter Clafton was great in goal as he made 35 saves to pick up his third win of the season. Dominik Wasik was dealt the loss as he made 18 saves for the Wings.
Maine 3 @ New Jersey 7 – Brendan Dumas and Levente Keresztes both doubled up on scoring up help put the Titans ahead of the Nordiques 7-3 to regain the lead in the East division. Coleman Nee, David Posma, and Anthony Mollica also found the back of the net for the New Jersey offense. Maine goals came off the sticks of Tyler Gaulin, Tristan Fasig, and Jonny Meiers. Andrew Takacs recorded his eleventh win of the season between the pipes for the Titans as he turned aside 33 of 36. Gus Holt took the loss in net for Maine despite coming up with 43 saves on the evening.
Jamestown 3 @ Johnstown 2 (OT) – Marcus Kivela Carlzon struck just 23 seconds into the extra frame with help from Joseph Calvarino and John Lundy to lift Jamestown over Johnstown by a score of 3-2 in a close contest on opposing ice. John Lundy netted a pair of his own for the Rebels in the first and third periods for a three point outing. Johnstown scored both of their regulation goals during the middle twenty minutes of play as Jake Black and Zachary Murray lit the lamp. Jamestown keeper Jon Howe was dominant from the blue paint as he stopped 25 shots fired his direction. On the other end of the ice, Tommy Heaney did all he could in goal for Johnstown going 28 for 31.
MN Magicians 3 @ Janesville 4 (SO) – After a remarkable eight round shootout, Mack Keryluk broke the tie to give Janesville the advantage over the Magicians 4-3. The contest opened with a 3-0 Magicians run backed by Connor Mahony, Robert Christy, and Gavin Best. Janesville answered with three of their own in the second frame coming from AJ Casperson who got his first tally of the year, and Cy LeClerc who scored twice to bring his goal total to 17 on the season for the Jets. Owen Millward was dominant in net for Janesville going 30 for 33 for his eighth win of the season. Magicians net minder Henry Levy scooped up 19 saves in the loss.
North Iowa 3 @ Austin 5 – Michal Jasenec’s four point performance paved the way for a 5-3 Austin victory against North Iowa on Friday evening. Michael Mesic found the back of the net for the Bulls 5:40 into the game, but was met by an equalizer off the stick of Sutter Muzzatti for Austin just 6:31 later. Simone Dadie and Bryon Hartley added tallies for North Iowa in the second. Gavin Morrissey and Damon Furuseth netted goals for the Bruins in the middle frame as well, but Michal Jasenec broke the deadlock with the final two scores for Austin. Hudson Hodges needed just 20 saves from the blue pain to secure the win for Austin. Hunter Garvey was faced with the loss as he made 17 stops for North Iowa.
New Mexico 1 @ Corpus Christi 2 – Corpus Christi doubled up New Mexico 2-1 in a tight South division matchup in Texas. Charlie Merkley opened up the scoring for the IceRays just 3:10 into the contest with help from Kevin O’Keefe. Corpus Christi grabbed another tally 2:05 into the second period thanks to a goal from Jack Wandmacher that was assisted by Ryan Bystrom and Colby Seitz. Dillan Bentley netted one 4:46 into the final frame for New Mexico on the pass from Brandon Holt and William Howard in attempt to bring the Ice Wolves within reach. Damon Beaver was stellar in front of the goal for Corpus Christi with 49 saves in the victory. New Mexico keeper Beni Halasz went 29 for 31 in the defeat.
St. Cloud 2 @ Bismarck 5 – Calvin Hanson logged a goal and two assists as the Bismarck Bobcats defeated the St. Cloud Norsemen 5-2. Jon Ziskie chipped in a goal and an assist while Paul Huglen, Nico Chmelevski and Patrick Johnson all lit the lamp for Bismarck. Hunter Hanson and Nik Hong found the back of the net for St. Cloud. Ben Behrens grabbed the win in goal as he made 24 saves to earn his first win with the Bobcats. Josh Langford took the loss in net as he made 23 stops.
Shreveport 2 @ Odessa 4 – Chris Duclair potted a pair of goals and added an assist as the Odessa Jackalopes doubled up the Shreveport Mudbugs 4-2. Liam O’hare and Trevor Taulien contributed goals for Odessa as well. William Proctor was the winner in the blue paint as her stopped 28 of 30 shots fired in his direction. Jake Mack provided all the offense for Shreveport with his second and third goals of the season. Devon Bobak made 16 saves in the loss for the Mudbugs.
