Chippewa goaltender Gajan makes NCAA DI commitment

December 5, 2022

The Chippewa Steel of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that goaltender Adam Gajan has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for the University of Minnesota-Duluth in the NCHC.

Gajan, 18, is in his first season of junior hockey in North America in the NAHL and second season of junior hockey overall.

The 6’3/176 lbs. native of Poprad, Slovakia, is off to a solid start with the Steel. In 16 games played, he has posted a 8-7-1 record with a 2.74 goals against average and a .920 save percentage.

“I’m proud and honored to announce my commitment to play NCAA D1 hockey at the University of Minnesota Duluth. Thanks to everyone who supported me along the way. It’s just the beginning!” said Gajan on social media.

Back in late October, Gajan, along with seven other NAHL players were recognized on the National Hockey League’s (NHL) ‘Prospects to Watch’ list for 2023 draft-eligible players with the release of NHL Central Scouting's preliminary list of players to watch in North America and Europe.

I am unbelievably happy and proud of Adam. The way he has handled himself on and off the ice has been first class. He is an outstanding talent and even better person. Couldn’t be more excited for Adam!” said Steel head coach Casey Mignone.

Prior to playing in the US for Chippewa, Gajan played junior and youth hockey in his home country of Slovakia for HK Skalica.
