Saturday Scores: Central standings tighten thanks to sweeps

Will Laychur had two goals in a 4-2 win on Saturday as the Lone Star Brahmas widened their lead atop the South Division with a 4-2 win on Saturday.

St. Cloud 1 @ Aberdeen 2 – The Wings staged a late-game comeback to defeat the Norsemen 2-1 on Saturday to complete a weekend home sweep and win their third straight game. The game was scoreless through two periods thanks to the goaltending of St. Cloud’s Tomas Bolo and Aberdeen’s Cole Moore. St. Cloud broke through early in the 3rd period with a goal from Broten Sabo. Aberdeen stormed back late in the 3rd period with a goal from Jackson Anderson to tie the game and then the game-winner from Owen Dubois with just :22 seconds remaning. Moore made 24 saves in the win, while Bolo made 31 saves in the loss.

Oklahoma 2 @ Lone Star 4 – Will Laychur scored twice as the Brahmas widened their lead atop the South to seven points thanks to a 4-2 win over the visiting Warriors. After Oklahoma took a 1-0 lead with an early goal from Cole Teleki, the Brahmas rattled off three straight goals, including a pair from Laychur and one from Dhillon Wilde. Hunter Jones scored for the Warriors to make it 3-2, but a 3rd period goal from Lone Star’s Antti Autere secured the 4-2 win. William Gramme made 22 saves in the win, while Daniel Duris made 29 saves in the loss.

Danbury 1 @ Maine 5 – The Nordiques cruised to a 5-1 win over the Jr. Hat Tricks to earn a weekend sweep. Five different players scored, Kellen Murphy had three assists and Kael Depape made 30 saves in the win. Danbury had a 1-0 lead in the 1st period thanks to their lone goal from Wyatt Stefan. It was all Nordiques after that as goals from Oliver Genest, Aidan Coupe, and Henrik Hallberg but Maine ahead 3-1 in the 2nd period and more goals from Brendan Gibbons and Laurent Trepanier in the 3rd period secured the 5-1 win. Matt O’Donnell made 31 saves in the loss.

Kenai River 3 @ Wisconsin 4 – Four different players scored and Luke Levandowski had three assists to lead the Windigo to a 4-3 win and weekend sweep of the Brown Bears. Wisconsin got 1st period goals from Axel Begley and Benjamin Anderson, a 2nd period goal from Zachary Burfoot, and a 3rd period goal from Will Schumacher. The Brown Bears got two goals from Garett Drotts and one from Hayden Walters. Maxwell Beckford made 25 saves in the win, while Bryant Marks made 39 saves in the loss.

Minot 7 @ Bismarck 5 – Hunter Longhi had two goals and an assist as the Minotauros completed a three-game weekend sweep of the Bobcats thanks to a 7-5 win on Saturday. The Minotauros also got goals from Chase LaPinta, Cameron Boche, Colby Joseph, Trevor Stachowiak, and Bryce Howard. Calvin Hanson scored twice for Bismarck and Adam Pietila, Michael Neumeier, and Erik Atchison also netted goals in the Bobcats loss. Lawton Zacher made 20 saves in the win, while Hunter Garvey took the loss with 18 saves.

Austin 3 @ North Iowa 4 (SO) – It took 14 combined shooters, but the Bulls outlasted the Bruins in extra time for a second straight night as goalie Stefan Carney made 37 saves and stopped all seven Bruins shooters in the shootout for a 4-3 win. Jack Schouten, Nolan Abraham, and Max Scott scored in regulation for the Bulls, while Jack Malinski, Damon Furuseth, and Sam Christiano scored for the Bruins. In the shootout, Landon MacDonald was the lone player to score. Bruins goalie Ethan Robertson made 19 saves in the loss.

New Mexico 1 @ Amarillo 3 – Wranglers goalie Carter Clafton made 30 saves to lead his team to a 3-1 win, earning a weekend split with the Ice Wolves. After a scoreless 1st period, the Wranglers took a 2-1 lead in the 2nd period with goals from Roman Zap and Ben Ivey, while Yusaku Ando scored for New Mexico. In the 3rd period, Pierce Patterson added a power play goal to secure the win. New Mexico goalie William Craig made 40 saves in the loss.

Anchorage 3 @ Janesville 0 – Wolverines goalie Shane Soderwall stopped all 40 shots that came his way for his second shutout of the season as Anchorage earned a weekend road split in Janesville thanks to a 3-0 win on Saturday. Mason LeBel scored two goals for the Wolverines and Hayden Hennen also found the back of the net. Jets goalie Selby Warren made 27 saves in the loss.

Northeast 2 @ Johnstown 3 (SO) – It took 22 combined shooters, but the Tomahawks finally outlasted the Generals in a shootout to earn a weekend split. In the 1st period, the teams traded goals as Justin Rapp scored for Johnstown with Jared Scott answering for the Generals. In the 2nd period, the Generals went up 2-1 on a goal from Ryan Remick, but Nick Ahern answered for Johnstown. In the shootout, Johnny Ulicny was the lone player of 22 combined shooters to score. Alec Rajalin-Scharp made 23 saves in the win, which included stopping all 11 Generals players in the shootout. Cullen DeYoung made 29 saves in the loss.

Fairbanks 4 @ Chippewa 0 – The Ice Dogs moved into a tie for 1st place in the Midwest as they won their third straight game thanks to a 32-save shutout by Kayden Hargraves in a 4-0 win at Chippewa. Brady Welsch scored in the 1st period, Domenick Evtimov scored in the 2nd period, and Colin Goff and Billy Renfrew added 3rd period goals. Steel goalie Carter Wishart made 30 saves in the loss.
